Wellbeing Hack 4:
Write yourself a lifeline
There are three levels of you. First, there are your personality traits. Next there are your hopes, dreams, values and roles. And then, right down at the heart of you, is your life story.
1.
Clarifying your life story is the way to feel a strong, consistent sense of who you are – it’s the key to figuring out how to be yourself.
2.
Creating a lifeline is a good way to get an overview of the events in your life. From this you can find patterns and themes that clarify your life story.
3.
Writing about specific difficult events can bring closure to them. This has been found to have a range of benefits such as reducing visits to the doctor, and improving the immune system.
4.
Writing about your best possible self leads to increased life satisfaction, mood, optimism, and overall well-being.
5.
People who use redemption stories for key moments in their life have higher self-esteem, life satisfaction and wellbeing. Whereas people who tend to use contamination stories are more at risk of depression.
